Co-creation of a music program in a Singapore community day care setting

Abstract Overview

The purpose of creating a co-creation program was to find out if music programs
could be created with and for the Singaporean elders in community day care centres. The “Methodkit” human needs deck comprised of 63 visual aid cards of various pictures and key words used, to discover what factors hold importance to these elders. These cards were divided into four different domains: Cognitive, Physical, Social-emotional, and Spiritual domains. Six elders were recruited, aged 50 and above with an inclusive criterion of being communicative without any cognitive impairment. The results of the elders selecting two cards in each domain were narrowed down specifically to music.
Another set of curated visual cards involving categories of the type of setting, activity, and genre, were created for elders to select from. The program ended with an evaluation survey to measure the effectiveness of the co-created program.
Key words: Co-creation, Domains, Music Program, Community Day Care Centre
