Exploring how music therapy is woven into a multi-modal, trauma informed service.

Abstract Overview

Our children are growing up in a world full of increasing uncertainty and change. Trauma has become more of a prevalent topic within health professions and the need for creative and expressive therapies continues to grow. The vast and ever-increasing pool of research suggests that nurturing secure attachment is crucial to healing and future wellbeing. This presentation looks to share how a trauma informed non-government organisation (unique within its country of origin) uses relationship and transformative experiences to restore and preserve wellness for children and their families who experience multiple forms of adversity.
Alongside other therapeutic modalities, music therapy has become an integral part of this organization’s therapeutic offerings. This presentation will explore the critical role music therapy plays when working with complex trauma, and the unique journey of a music therapist weaving their practice into the heart of this organisation.
