Spotlight panel – Practice wisdom in music therapy: Reflections on pivotal moments that shape music therapy practice

Abstract

This spotlight panel brings together four registered music therapists to reflect on music therapy practice from diverse perspectives, capturing the innovations and collaborations that have developed the field of music therapy over 50 years. Highlighting a diverse range of clinical practice experiences, panelists will share their “practice wisdom,” a term first introduced to music therapy through the research work of Associate Professor Clare O’Callaghan. Each speaker will identify “pivotal moments” (Grocke, 1999) that have defined their professional journeys and careers as registered music therapists. Together, the panel will draw on their collective experience to consider the future of music therapy in Australia.
