Rodney Arnold, University of Waikato

Details

The presentation covers the rationale, decision making, and processes embarked on to reposition staff training sessions to an on-line platform in connection with a comprehensive and intensive face-to-face three-week residential staff training programme. The session will focus on the tasks involved with choosing and creating effective on-line sessions and the challengers encountered. The Residential Life Managers at the University of Waikato created and implemented online training modules to complement face to face sessions for Residential Leaders (Residential Assistants) training. We present to you our journey starting from why we decided to venture into online modules, followed by the tools, apps, creative software we utilised (and also did not use) ranging from Ponopto, Doodle Maker, Canva Pro, PowerPoint, Zoom and Sharepoint. Thrown in is our experience creating our online modules whilst our university migrated from Google Suite to Microsoft 365. Then we share with you our specific learnings before talking about how we implemented improvements for future training sessions.
