Biography

Dr Cathrin Kusuma is an experienced psychiatrist specialising in perinatal mental health. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Monash University, a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr Kusuma completed her specialist medical training with North Western Mental Health in Melbourne, followed by advanced training at the Werribee Mercy Mother Baby outpatient clinic, the Royal Women’s Hospital and Albert Road Clinic. Currently, Dr Kusuma is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Sunshine Hospital, where she established and now leads the multidisciplinary Perinatal Mental Health Service. In this role, she provides psychiatric assessment and treatment advice for women admitted to the Joan Kirner building, as well as those attending maternity outpatient clinics. She is deeply committed to supervision and mentoring, supporting both her clinical team and psychiatry trainees, and advocating within the hospital system for the mental health needs of parents. UIn addition to her public hospital work, Dr Kusuma is the founder of Parent in Mind, a private perinatal psychiatry practice that takes a holistic, family centred approach. The practice integrates biological, psychological and social perspectives to support parents through the emotional and relational challenges of fertility, pregnancy, birth and the early parenting period. Dr Kusuma also runs Cortical TMS, a dedicated transcranial magnetic stimulation clinic providing evidence based neuromodulation treatment for depression and related conditions. Her work in this space reflects her commitment to expanding safe, effective treatment options for parents and families. She is passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of women before, during and after pregnancy. Dr Kusuma believes that the mental health of mothers shapes the health of the whole family, and she is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence based care to families during this pivotal time.
