Biography
Florian Grimpen studied medicine in Germany where he completed a doctoral thesis in the field of sleep medicine before migrating to Australia. He completed his training in gastroenterology in Canberra and Sydney, with interventional endoscopy fellowships at St George Hospital and at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He has been a Staff Specialist at the RBWH since 2012 and is the current Clinical Director of Endoscopy, as well as a Deputy Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the RBWH. His special interests include ERCP, balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, large polyp resection, as well as management of dysplastic Barrett’s oesophagus including EMR and RFA. He leads the Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship program at the RBWH and has helped train dozens of AT registrars and fellows over the years. His research interests include small bowel work, ERCP, Barrett’s, and upper endoscopy and colonoscopy quality assurance and outcomes data.
