Featuring presentations from Annalise Stanley (IBS), Palle Bager (IBD), Katie Zajac (Clinical Nutrition), Vera Meeusen (Nurse Anaesthetist), Burglind Liddle (Hepatology) and Sarah Harnden (Nurse Endoscopist), and a panel discussion with all speakers.

Strategic Synergy: navigating Hepatology’s future through partnerships with nurse practitioners
Biography
Burglind Liddle is a dedicated and experienced hepatology Nurse Practitioner, who has been providing exceptional care to patients with liver diseases for over 20 years. She has been working as a Nurse Practitioner after graduating from University of Queensland with a Masters of Nurse Practitioner in 2016.
In her current role, she works closely with a team of liver specialists, nurses, GP’s and allied health providing comprehensive care to patients with a wide range of liver conditions, including cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver cancer, and fatty liver disease.
Burglind has a passion for improving the quality of life for individuals with liver diseases and is committed to helping them improve their overall health. She has a strong understanding of managing of liver disease and remains an advocate for lifelong learning engaging with ongoing self-education and mentoring new nurses in hepatology.
Annalise Stanley

Biography
Anna is an experienced Functional Gut Clinical Nurse Consultant who manages patients with functional gut disorders as part of a team of Gastroenterologists, Psychiatrists, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists and Dietitians in the St Vincent's Hospital Functional Gut Clinic since 2017.
Anna sees her own patient caseload in the Functional Gut Clinic, where she provides bowel, toileting and medication education. She also plays a crucial role in coordinating the complex multidisciplinary care of patients seen in the clinic. The role includes implementing Multidisciplinary plans, coordinating plans with inpatient teams, GPs and other external care providers.
Anna is actively involved in clinical research and advocacy efforts aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of functional gut disorders.

Clinical Nutrition Advance Practice Nursing Roles
Biography
Katie has been a paediatric nurse for about 20 years, both in Brisbane and Melbourne. She has worked at Mater Children’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, and now at QCH for 8 years in the role of nurse navigator - parenteral nutrition.

Nurse Endoscopist Advance Practice Nursing Roles
Biography
Sarah has worked in endoscopy nursing for 35 years, having started as a staff nurse and then a charge nurse in a one-, then two-roomed endoscopy unit in Shropshire UK. She jointly ran two-day practical endoscopy courses for nurses and a university longer module. In the mid 1990’s Sarah completed the first UK upper GI nurse endoscopist course, followed quickly by accreditation in flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy and had a role as a nurse practitioner doing these procedures and running nurse led clinics in dyspepsia and IBD as well as a PEG service.
In 2000 the opportunity arose to become the first UK nurse consultant in Gastroenterology at Wolverhampton, a larger hospital with an endoscopy training portfolio. Sarah developed her endoscopic skills and participated on the medical on call rota for GI bleeding performing haemostasis and variceal banding. She became one of the first UK clinical endoscopists to be accredited as a bowel cancer screening colonoscopist. She continued to also develop nurse lead clinics in IDA, IBD and luminal gastroenterology. Sarah became an accredited endoscopic trainer in upper and lower endoscopy and participated JAG (Joint Advisory Group on endoscopy training) approved courses throughout the UK. During this time, she also became an assessor for JAG visiting endoscopy units throughout England to validate standards of patient safety, care, and workforce development.
From 2001-2005 Sarah was chair of the Nurse’s Group of the BSG (British Society of Gastroenterology). This led to many speaking opportunities around in Europe and the World. In 2013 she moved back to Shropshire and now heads up a team of 11 clinical endoscopists over 9 procedure rooms. Recently she has set up a trans nasal endoscopy service to increase capacity. Our team also run the capsule endoscopy and sponge capsule service, triage referrals, insert PEGs.
Sarah is currently the lead for medical and clinical endoscopy training and deliver a portfolio of courses including train the trainer courses. She has close links to the regional Endoscopy Academy and acts as faculty for many courses including ENTS (Endoscopic Non-Technical skills).
Associate Professor Vera Meeusen

Nurse Anaesthetist Advance Practice Nursing Roles
Biography
Associate Professor Vera Meeusen is a Clinical Nurse Consultant of the Endoscopy Unit. She started as Nurse Anaesthetist working in anaesthesia, PACU and postoperative pain team in The Netherlands and performed several clinical research projects focused on the prevention and prediction of postoperative nausea & vomiting and postoperative pain management. After obtaining her degree as Master of Arts in Health Care at the University of Amsterdam she continued her career as a manager in the perianaesthesia settings. Vera’s PhD in Medicine focused on workload, job satisfaction, personality profiles of nurse anaesthetists and the history of nurse anaesthetists in Europe. In Australia, she obtained her Professional Fellowship of the Australian College of PeriAnaesthesia Nurses (ACPAN), became a Certified Health Manager and Associated Fellowship of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, and continued working in the perioperative environment. She has presented at national and international conferences and published multiple articles in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Currently, Vera’s research is very diverse: patient positioning during endoscopic procedures, staff and patient satisfaction, patient selection and assessment, delirium, and scope of practice of nurse anaesthetists.
Associate Professor Palle Bager

Biography
Palle has been engaged in gastrointestinal nursing for several decades and currently serves as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. Since 2017, he has also held the position of Associated Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, Denmark. Having earned his RN qualification in 1987, he has attained further academic achievements, including a Diploma in Health Education in 2002, Master of Public Health in 2007, and a PhD degree in 2014.
From 2014 to 2018, he was a member of the Nurses European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (N-ECCO) from 2014-18, assuming the role of chair from 2017 to 2018. Palle actively contributed to the development of both versions of The N-ECCO Consensus Statement on IBD nursing. Additionally, he has played a key role in organizing N-ECCO Congresses, N-ECCO e-learning initiatives, and international training courses for IBD-nurses.
Between 2019 and 2022, Palle served as board member of Nurses and AHP's European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). He was actively involved in organizing congresses and webinars related to liver nursing.
Palle's research interests encompasses a wide range of topics, including fatigue, anamia, Health-related Quality of Life, health literacy, healthcare service development, nutrition and adherence. His portfolio of over 50 research papers predominantly addresses healthcare issues for patients with IBD or liver cirrhosis. Moreover, he focusses on addressing inequality in health, exploring e-health and men's health issues. Palle has delivered numerous international talks and has been involved in the publication of several book on nursing.
