Biography

Chris Perrin (he/him) is a clinical nurse specialist who uses psychotherapeutic approaches to help people manage physical health problems, this can be seen as ‘mind-body’ work. He has worked in this area for more than 20 years at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH). He first saw the power of ‘mind body work’ when he learned and then trained to teach Autogenic Training and Therapy (AT), at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, AT (in his opinion) can be seen as a well structured form of self hypnosis. Chris has experience and training in working with people with a variety of different physical, psychological and emotional problems. He has worked in particular with people with pain and fatigue. Since 2014 he has worked primarily in gastroenterology at UCLH providing therapy for those with gut problems. When Chris started work in Gastroenterology he also trained in Hypnotherapy with the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis (BSCAH) of which he is a member. He has since provided courses gut focused hypnosis to people with a variety of gut problems. These include those with conditions known as ‘Disorders of the Gut-Brain Interaction’ (DGBI) such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). He also works with those who have Inflammatory Bowel disease. The gut focused hypnotherapy courses are based of the work of Whorwell and Palsson and consists in an assessment and then 7 hourly sessions. Chris has also subsequently trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients understand and manage the interaction of thought/emotion, behaviour and symptoms and to live as well as possible. He is also trained to teach to Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Chris is married with 3 grown up children, he has and benefits from a regular meditation practice, is a keen gardener, and enjoys playing Ukulele with local groups.
