Biography

Alison graduated The Robert Gordon University in Scotland in 2000. She worked at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for 11 years in both medical & surgical specialties before moving into endoscopy for her last 3 years in Aberdeen. After emigrating to Australia in late 2011, she continued working in endoscopy. She currently works as a clinical nurse in Endoscopy at North Canberra Hospital. Alison's passion lies in leadership and education. She was nominated through the local university for the Royal College of Nursing (UK) nurse of the year award in the category, 'A Mentor that had made a significant impact on undergraduate education in the clinical setting' in 2005 and was recognised again in 2018 in the ACT International nurses day awards. Alison has also volunteered with ANZGITA and has been to Myanmar 3 times to teach endoscopy in public hospitals throughout the country. Alison's commitment to education development comes from her drive to ensure best practice is delivered to all patients ensuring safe outcomes for all. She believes that through education and effective leadership nurses can continue to learn and grow as a profession. Alison is a Genca Board member, the current co-lead of the Genca education committee and a fundamentals facilitator.
