Leo commenced his clinical training as an intern in Latin America's largest hospital (Brazil) in 2008 and went through the surgical pathway through General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy over 8 years of training. From 2016, he has pursued a joint PhD program with the University of Adelaide and Nagoya University (Japan) between 2016 and 2020 on endoscopic prevention for colorectal cancer and undertook interventional endoscopy training, focusing on endoscopic tissue resection techniques (i.e. EMR and ESD). Between 2020 and 2022 he did further interventional endoscopy fellow years with Austin Health. Currently, he works as interventional endoscopist at Austin Health as well as working part-time in general practice at The Glen Superclinic and in the Australian Army Reserves as a medical officer (Oakleigh Barracks)."
