Biography

Qualifications - BM. BS University of Nottingham 1996, Member of Royal College of Paediatrics (UK) 1999, Fellow of Royal College of Emergency Medicine (UK) 2009 with Sub-specialty interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, and Fellow of Australasian College of Emergency Medicine 2012. Simon trained in the UK at the University of Nottingham, was an Emergency medicine trainee in the Southwest of England and an ED Consultant in regency Cheltenham for three years before moving to Australia in 2012. He settled in Wollongong on the beautiful NSW South coast. He has a keen interest in medical education and simulation. He was formally the Director of Emergency Training at Wollongong supervising 20 EM trainees. He directs Advanced Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support courses. He is the current Head of Department in Emergency at Wollongong. His clinical passion is Paediatric Emergency Medicine which he sees as the last bastion of clinical diagnosis rather than leaning on investigations. He has presented at national and international conferences and is the Chair of the organising committee for the ACEM endorsed conference “Evidence Review in Emergency Medicine.” He is ranked 13th in the Illawarra Shoalhaven in Men’s squash and coaches his son’s soccer team. Unfortunately, he is too old and scared to learn to surf.

Emergency physician at Northern Beaches Hospital. Prehospital and retrieval specialist, Aeromedical Operations. NSW Ambulance. Trauma consultant, Royal North Shore Hospital. Clinical Professor, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney and at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Macquarie University. Clinical researcher in trauma, injury and resuscitation with >100 peer reviewed publications and a track record of NHMRC, MRFF and NSW Health research grants. Faculty on STRESS, Resuscitology and ATACC Courses.

Biography

Louise Casey, Trauma & Emergency Clinical Nurse Consultant for Southern NSW LHD. Based in Bega on the Far South Coast of NSW. My LHD takes in 10 Emergency Departments ranging from ATC's to level 4. The geographical distance is up to 400km between ED's. Our LHD sought a solution to patient assessment improvements in our ED's, specifically pain assessment and improving nurse initiated analgesia. We successfully partnered with University of Sydney to implement HIRAID

Biography

Margaret is a clinical nurse consultant at Westmead Hospital and a clinical lecturer at The University of Sydney. She has an extensive clinical background in emergency nursing. She has post graduate qualifications in Critical Care and Mental Health Nursing, Education and Change Management. She has also worked as a principal project officer at the NSW Ministry of Health and has consulted on emergency care in Nepal, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangkok. She is a mother of two daughter and has a keen interest in trail walking and cycling. She sees herself as a clinician researcher. Being at the coalface is important to Margaret as it facilitates the generation of ideas and enables speedy translation of research evidence into clinical practice. Her PhD study focused on the impact of trauma team training on patients and health service delivery and today she is going to talk about that journey.
