When Ethics Hurt: A Literature Review Exploring the Mental Toll of Moral Distress on Registered Nurses working in Emergency Departments
4:50 PM - 5:10 PMBiography
Clare Walters is a PhD candidate and emergency nurse with over a decade of experience working in EDs across Australia and around the world, from big-city trauma bays to remote ski fields where the CT scanner is “just a dream.” With a long-standing interest in ethics and a personal mission to make EDs better places to work, Clare’s research focuses on moral distress in emergency nurses and how it impacts mental health and staff retention. She is passionate about creating a positive impact and advocating for practical, evidence-based strategies that actually work at the bedside. Clare is thrilled to be part of CENA 2025, and firmly believes that looking after our ED team is just as important as looking after our patients.
