Salience Sifting: A Heideggerian Model of Patient Outcome Ambiguity in Emergency Nursing
11:50 AM - 12:10 PMBiography
Rebecca Caulfield is an emergency nurse, nursing academic, and PhD candidate with more than 15 years of emergency nursing experience across emergency departments. She currently works as a lecturer and unit coordinator at Murdoch University and has a strong interest in emergency nursing workforce wellbeing, ambiguity in clinical practice, and the lived experience of emergency nurses. Her doctoral research utilises Heideggerian hermeneutic phenomenology to explore how emergency nurses experience unresolved patient outcome ambiguity and the ways certain patient encounters persist beyond the emergency department encounter. Rebecca’s broader interests include simulation and gamification in nursing education, neurodivergent learners, Universal Design for Learning, and preparing nurses for the complexity and uncertainty of contemporary healthcare environments. She is passionate about creating meaningful, emotionally sustainable, and inclusive approaches to emergency nursing practice and education.
