The session will cover valuable insights into patient counselling and managing expectations, ensuring that patients have a clear understanding and realistic outlook on their treatment. We will also discuss strategies for selecting the right intraocular lenses (IOLs) and highlight the potential risks associated with biometry and IOL calculations, along with methods to mitigate these issues. Attendees will leave equipped with practical tools and resources to define and elevate their role in the cataract patient journey, ultimately improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Susan Gaskell
Susan is a seasoned optometrist with over 30 years of serving her community. As well as working in private practice and corporate optometry, she has successfully owned and operated her own business, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to patient care. A skilled communicator and facilitator, Susan has worked as a Professional Development Manager for Alcon. In this position she has provided education to community-based optometrists, ophthalmologists and their staff to enhance the referral process and build robust patient counselling and clinical processes to maximise surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction with cataract surgery.
Caleb Bartolo
Caleb is a professional in the field of ophthalmology with a comprehensive background in marketing, orthoptics and refractive management. After starting his career as an orthoptist at Eye Surgery Associates in Melbourne, Caleb transitioned to a pivotal role as a Refractive Account Manager at Alcon. During both roles, he has been integral to the patient intraocular lens journey and has a keen focus on optimising patient care through advanced technology IOLs. Caleb also serves as the committee lead for the Alcon OPEN Network, a role in which he champions diversity and inclusion. He is dedicated to fostering a workplace environment that is safe, supportive, and inclusive for all individuals.
