The role of retinal imaging in retinopathy of prematurity surveillance
Abstract
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is the abnormal growth of blood vessels in children who are born prematurely. There are five stages of disease. Treatment options vary depending on the severity of the disease. Regular monitoring and surveillance of these patients is crucial to ensure good visual outcomes.
At the Children’s Hospital at Westmead retinal imaging is used to screen, monitor and manage ROP in premature babies and neonates. This presentation will discuss the use and effectiveness of retinal imaging and some interesting case studies.
