Biography

Amanda Cranage has over 30 years’ experience working in both the public and private healthcare sectors. She commenced her clinical career in Queensland, working as an orthoptist in private practice and at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. After relocating back to her hometown of Melbourne, Amanda continued working as an orthoptist at Camberwell Eye Clinic, before transitioning to business and operational management when the clinic become part of Vision Eye Institute. Amanda’s journey at Vision Eye Institute, Australia’s largest private provider of ophthalmic care, has spanned key leadership positions including Orthoptic Team Leader, Business Manager, National Operations Manager and General Manager. During this time, she oversaw significant business growth and expansion of the organisation, led several greenfield and brownfield builds of consulting rooms and day hospitals, and led the health fund negotiations on behalf of the 11 Vision Hospital Group day hospitals. With her unique blend of clinical expertise and strategic acumen, Amanda assumed the CEO role in 2023. She has leveraged her deep understanding of the ophthalmology landscape to steer the organisation through significant growth and evolution. Passionate about healthcare leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration and patient outcomes, Amanda is inspired by the opportunity to lead an organisation that makes a profound difference in people’s lives every day. Drawing from her own career journey, Amanda is also committed to Vision Eye Institute’s longstanding culture of internal workforce development and opportunities for growth – where individuals can thrive and are supported to reach their full potential. Until 2023, Amanda concurrently held the role of Non-executive Director and Chairperson for Alina Vision, a social enterprise backed by Fred Hollows Foundation, focussed on providing high-quality, accessible and sustainable eye care in Vietnam.
