Orthoptic Service Delivery: a look at time and money

Abstract

Orthoptic Service Delivery: A Look at Time and Money

Orthoptists are essential members of the eye and vision health care team. The expertise, depth and breadth of clinical skills provided have been well documented and reported on. Other main outcomes analysed include the following: how many orthoptists, where they work and what type of setting they work in, been reported additionally.

This presentation will endeavour to highlight two key findings; time and money related to orthoptic service delivery; these two findings have rarely been interpreted or reported on in orthoptic service delivery. Inspecting the sub-specialty field of low vision and blindness assessment/rehabilitation provided by orthoptists against current funding bodies of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care (MAC).

A fresh and unique interpretation of time and money related to orthoptic service delivery in low vision and blindness to confidently add further value to existing data and support future workforce opportunities and enablement in the orthoptic workforce.
