Biography

Dr. Andrés Gambini is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Science at The University of Queensland and an internationally recognised leader in reproductive biotechnology. He obtained his veterinary degree with honours from the National University of Río Cuarto, Argentina, in 2008 and completed a PhD in Animal Reproduction at the University of Buenos Aires, where his research focused on in vitro embryo production in horses. Dr. Gambini has led several landmark achievements in assisted reproduction, including the first cloned horses in South America (2010) and Australia (2018), the first in vitro-produced donkey and mule embryos (2022), the first cloned zebra embryo (2020), and the world’s first IVF kangaroo embryo (2025). His research spans animal cloning, IVF, ICSI, oocyte activation, embryo culture, and embryonic genome activation across domestic and wildlife species. His work aims to improve reproductive efficiency, support the horse breeding industry, and advance conservation through the development of innovative reproductive technologies for livestock, endangered and genetically valuable species.
