Petra Wale is a clinical embryologist with expertise in IVF laboratory management, quality control, and best-practice embryology. She has led IVF labs in Australia and the U.S., introduced technologies like time-lapse imaging, and trained staff in blastocyst biopsy under an NHMRC licence. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, where her research on oxygen’s effects on embryo development earned multiple grants and awards. Her published work focuses on improving lab practices to enhance patient outcomes. As President of the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ), Petra advocates for inclusive fertility care. She led a 10-year Fertility Roadmap calling for a National Fertility Plan, a central donor database, and improved access and affordability. She also signed the Tokyo Declaration, supporting global principles to protect individuals seeking fertility care and children born through assisted reproduction.
