Common toxins for exotic pets - reptiles and birds

Abstract

This lecture will cover some of the more common toxins and poisons that affect our exotic pets, specifically avian, reptile and small mammal patients. Included in the lecture will be information regarding clinical symptoms of poisoning, the most common toxins known and how the animal may be exposed to them. Further to this, there will be suggestions on how to prevent poisoning incidents. This information can be given to owners of these species as part of a husbandry and care bundle / leaflet that your clinic may already provide or may be interested in creating. It will be focusing on household or garden toxins that are more readily accessible to pets or perhaps not well known to owners.
