Effective action to beat climate change – emissions reduction in practice
Abstract
Tackling climate change requires emissions reductions and this can be achieved in 2 ways;
1. Reducing emissions in your workplace and home
2. Advocating and inspiring the people you meet to reduce their emissions.
Veterinary nurses are in a unique position as emission reduction in practice is easy to start and you have a daily connection to more than half the Australian population through their animal ownership. You can inspire more than half of the country to support your efforts to provide a better future for the animals they love.
Presentation
- Why is emissions reduction so urgent? A brief update on the climate science
- Understand the different categories of emissions and which ones are important in veterinary practice.
- How to start reducing emissions, what are the barriers and how can you deal with them.
- Learn how the VfCA climate care program engages the whole team in emissions reduction. You need the whole team to join with the wider community to succeed.
- Risk management – what are the climate related risks you need to think about in your practice and how should you respond?
- What is greenwashing and how do you know if a product is doing what it claims.
Outcomes
Understand the urgency of emissions reduction, how to get started and how to inspire the public to follow.

Terry works within our Climate Smart team where her expertise in educational development comes to the fore.
