Workshop Four: Theatre preparation - Getting clean and staying clean
Abstract
This workshop is all about getting clean and staying clean in the theatre. Surgical nurses perform a key role in upholding asepsis and assisting the surgeon in surgical procedures. Topics that will be covered include :Preparing the patient, the theatre and personnel, including surgical site preparation, scrub solutions and techniques, gowning & gloving of surgical personnel to maintain asepsis. You will have the opportunity to practice gowning, surgical handscrub/rub and different methods of gloving. Care and cleaning of surgical instruments will also be covered. You will leave this workshop understanding the role in assisting the surgeon from positioning and securing the patient, to the role and responsibilities of the scrubbed-in surgical nurse.
Biography
Jo is a Registered and Accredited Veterinary Nurse with over 20 years’ experience and is a trainer and assessor for Animal Industries Resource Centre and Crampton Consulting Group. She also works as a clinical veterinary nurse in practice. Jo is active member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) having previously sat on the board of directors as a Past President and currently is a member of the CPD committee, editorial committee reviewing the Australian Veterinary Nurses Journal (AVNJ) and the Australian Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Registration Scheme (AVNAT) Regulatory Council chair. Jo has lectured both within Australia and internationally.
