Abstract
We work for veterinary medicine, but does veterinary medicine work for us? The pandemic highlighted previous issues that our industry has been trying to manage for a long time and it has reached a level where the complexities are overwhelming for many. The industry is seeing veterinary shortages, mental illness, culture issues and pay issues to name a few.
This talk will cover the strategies we may consider locally and beyond and will cover some of the initiatives currently occurring in Australia that help the industry to evolve. Bring your challenges, we’re going to discuss how to solve them.

Biography
Erica has over 20 years of experience leading and managing in the animal care and veterinary industries. She has worked in the private and public sectors, beginning as a veterinary nurse in general practice and then emergency and critical care nursing. She then managed a large team in Western Australia’s teaching veterinary hospital. At that time she also assisted in creating WA’s state support plan for animals in emergencies.
Erica has a master of business administration, master of human resource management, and a master of emergency management and qualifications in policy and development, honours research, biomedical science and veterinary nursing.
She is dedicated to creating resilience in the veterinary community by building leadership, culture and advancing animal emergency management through her consulting business. Erica also lectures in Healthcare; management, systems and strategy. Lastly, she volunteers with the Cockburn State Emergency Service.
