But I offered food!

Abstract

What really happens when our patients don't eat? Is something really better than nothing? The role of nutrition in our hospitalized patients is arguably one of the most important factors for a successful outcome and getting our patients home, yet it is often the most forgotten about.

In this lecture, we will discuss what critical care nutrition really is, and no, its not just feeding tubes!

We will look at the metabolic changes an animal undergoes when their caloric intake decreases and how this is affects what we do nutritionally.

Critical Care nutrition is not just reserved for specialty practice, it is something that we as vet nurses/techs are likely dealing with everyday, in every practice.

So lets arm ourselves with knowledge and get these patients eating!
