ECG - what's behind the beats
Abstract
Electrocardiography is one of the most prominently utilised monitoring techniques in clinical settings, and reveals important information about the patient’s cardiovascular status. Veterinary nurses should feel confident in understanding and interpreting the ECG waveform as part of their monitoring procedures. This lecture will discuss the physiology of the cardiac electrical conduction system, and how this correlates to the ECG waveform, before an in-depth discussion on the various traces that can be encountered in small animals and will cover the variables to identify waveforms, including the conditions that could cause them. This lecture aims to arm the attendee with the skills and knowledge to feel confident in identifying, interpreting, and addressing ECG monitoring in their workplace.
