Nursing the neurological patient
Abstract
The lecture will include a review of the important anatomical components of the central and peripheral nervous system before moving into some commonly seen neurological conditions and how veterinary nurses/technologists can approach initial treatment and nursing care of these patients.
Biography
Alexsia (Lexi) has been a veterinary nurse for over 7 years, first working at Lort Smith Animal Hospital across all departments before moving to Melbourne Animal Referral Services where she worked as a surgical assistant. Lexi has also completed further veterinary nursing qualifications in RECOVER training, small animal anaesthesia and neurology nursing. She soon discovered her passion for education, lecturing in the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing at Melbourne Polytechnic delivered in partnership with Latrobe University for 3 years.
Currently, Lexi works at the University of Adelaide delivering lectures and practical skills workshops across both the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Lexi is passionate about shaping the future of the veterinary nursing/technology degree through elevating educational programs and continuing to promote the advancement of the profession as an educator.
