Just breathe - mechanical ventilation
Abstract
Performing mechanical ventilation is amongst the most complex of critical care procedures a veterinary nurse can offer. A patient receiving mechanical ventilation is in a life-threatening, critical condition, and the veterinary nurse caring for them must have the skills and knowledge to undertake and understand all aspects of the patient’s treatment. This lecture will discuss in-depth the components involved in MV, including the various ventilation modes, the critical settings and troubleshooting alarms, while detailing the whats, hows, and whys behind these. It will cover the patient care techniques, monitoring factors, and other information required for the audience to gain a comprehensive understanding and confidence in delivering mechanical ventilation to their small animal patients
