Management of the pacemaker patient
Abstract
This lecture will focus on the nursing care of veterinary patients with pacemakers, covering the indications for pacemaker placement and patient assessment through to the perioperative and long-term management. It will include ECG monitoring, recognizing signs of complications and providing post-operative care to ensure proper healing.
Biography
Elle graduated in 2008 from the University of Bristol with a BSc honours degree as a RVN. She moved to the Midlands where and worked in a mixed practice for 2 years before returning to the University of Bristol as Senior ICU nurse. She spent 4 years back at Bristol and gained the VTS(ECC) qualification in 2012. In 2013 she moved to London and joined the Royal Veterinary College Emergency and Critical Care team and worked as both senior and head ECC Nurse. In 2019 she completed a PGCert in Veterinary Education and became a member of the FHEA. In 2020 she stepped down as head nurse and back into the team to regain a focus on clinical work and mentoring the students on clinical rotations. In 2023 she joined the anaesthesia team to develop a new knowledge and skill set. She has lectured internationally, works with a number of CPD providers to teach on a range of ECC topics, has written numerous articles and also contributed to book chapters. She is on the editorial committee for The Veterinary Nurse in addition to volunteering for EVECCS.
