Workshop Six: Surgical scrub nursing - perfecting your peri-operative skills
Abstract
This workshop will allow participants the chance to refine their scrub nursing skills by getting them to practice gowning, gloving and draping. The workshop will also include a review of some specialist orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgeries (including review of surgical instruments), explaining techniques to predicting what your vet needs.
Biography
Alexsia (Lexi) has been a veterinary nurse for over 7 years, first working at Lort Smith Animal Hospital across all departments before moving to Melbourne Animal Referral Services where she worked as a surgical assistant. Lexi has also completed further veterinary nursing qualifications in RECOVER training, small animal anaesthesia and neurology nursing. She soon discovered her passion for education, lecturing in the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing at Melbourne Polytechnic delivered in partnership with Latrobe University for 3 years.
Currently, Lexi works at the University of Adelaide delivering lectures and practical skills workshops across both the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Lexi is passionate about shaping the future of the veterinary nursing/technology degree through elevating educational programs and continuing to promote the advancement of the profession as an educator.
