The crisis in veterinary dentistry and the welfare implications for our patients
Abstract
I am sure if you are working in general practice that you come across dental patients every day. I am also sure that you will be taking all steps to ensure their comfort and safety throughout their oral assessment and dental treatment, and providing their pet parent with the right information on how to provide long term good oral care for their pet. But do you have the skills to address the growing trend toward anaesthesia-free dentistry? Can you confidently educate your client on the benefits of professional treatment under the care of a veterinarian as opposed to a lay-person providing this 'service'.
This lecture will introduce you to what anaesthesia-free dentistry is, its pitfalls and the welfare implications it poses. You will be provided with the language and the strategies to better educate your clients to make better choices and you'll be encouraged to actively raise awareness amongst your team, and you'll receive my Top Tips in Anaesthetic Safety for Dental Patients!
If you're just a little bit fearful of the dentist yourself, this lecture is for you - your empathy is required!
