Biography
Rebecca de Gier is a Veterinary Technician Specialist (Exotic Companion Animals) and the Director and Practice Manager at The Unusual Pet Vets – Gold Coast. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Wildlife Biology and Animal Production from the University of Queensland, as well as a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and a Diploma of Practice Management.
In 2022, Rebecca became one of only 13 professionals worldwide—and just two in the southern hemisphere—to achieve VTS certification in Exotic Companion Animals. This accomplishment reflects her advanced expertise in the care and management of birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
Rebecca is passionate about improving veterinary standards for exotic companion animals and is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of veterinary professionals. She brings a unique combination of clinical knowledge, leadership experience, and a commitment to compassionate, innovative patient care.

Biography
BAppSc (VT), Cert IV Vet Nurse, VTS (Exotic Companion Animal), Certified ALS instructor (Recover), RVT
Gary graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary Technology program in 2006. Since graduation, he has worked in general practice, specialist referral and teaching positions. He now holds the position of Practice Manager for the UQVETS Teaching Hospitals. In this role, he manages a large number of staff across the Small animal, Equine and Production animal teaching hospitals.
Gary is strong advocate for Nurse and Technician continuing professional development and has lectured at national and international conferences. He also holds committee positions for both the Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) registration scheme and the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) QLD division.
