What do the waves on my monitor mean?
Abstract
The squiggly wavey lines on a multi parameter monitor can look confusing at first. What do they all mean and why is this important. First we need to understand what is normal, we will look at the waveforms and numbers for ECG, Capnograph, Blood pressure both non invasive and invasive and the all annoying pulse oximeter. We will cover some tips to help you get accurate numbers so they are actually meaningful. We will also look at some common abnormalities that you might see and what we may need to do about them. By the end of the lecture the monitor should look less like a bunch of wavey lines and more like important information to help you monitor your patient.
