Blood Gas - how to understand it and why is it so helpful
Abstract
Blood gas is a very common blood test used in emergency and referral medicine. While it looks super complicated with lots of unusual abbreviations on what it tests and when your patient is sick can have so many arrows pointing in all directions. We break down what a blood gas can tell us and why this is important to our patient. We will then look at how to tell if the patient is acidic or alkalotic and is it metabolic or respiratory or both. We will work through some case examples together in this lecture to allow practice in understanding this all important blood test.
